Shutters | Quality Window Solutions

Plantation Shutters come in a variety of styles and finishes. There are also plenty of options available. The first step is to decide if you want Basswood or Poly Synthetic for your material. If you are looking for a beautiful, stain finish – perhaps to match cabinets- then it is best to go with a natural basswood stained shutter. Otherwise, wood and poly synthetic both offer different benefits.

Here are the some of the differences between the two:

  • Wood is a natural and beautiful material but does require maintenance. Although poly synthetic does not have the same “luster” as many wood shutter manufacturers say their wood shutters do, the finish on poly shutters has come a long way. In fact, many cannot tell the difference between the two when staring at both side-by-side.
  • Poly synthetic shutters are less expensive than wood, tend to have longer warranties on the finish, and require little or no maintenance. Poly Synthetic Shutters handle moisture better than wood, making them more ideal in areas where there may be exposure to water, moisture, or steam. The game changer for the Poly Synthetic Shutters came when the solid poly-material was introduced in the “harder” form, with aluminum reinforcement. This is not to down play the beauty, or durability of a natural Wood Shutter.

Some options available in wood are not available with poly synthetic shutters, such as liberty arch tops, sandblasting or a wood stain match.
